Indications

Treatment with Nicabate is indicated as an aid to smoking cessation. It is intended to be used as part of an effective behavioural therapy program in an overall strategy for smoking cessation. Therapy should be confined to short term use (3 months) and be initiated after appropriate medical assessment

Directions

Nicabate CQ patches, being a step down programme, reduces your nicotine dose gradually rather than stopping suddenly.

If you smoke less than 10 cigarettes per day you should start with Step 2 (14mg/24hr) and use for 6-8 weeks, then 2-4 weeks on step 3 (7mg/24hr)

Apply one patch at the same time every day, preferably on waking. Press patch firmly onto clean, dry, non-hairy skin, holding it in place for 10 seconds. Do not re-apply to previously used skin for 7 days.

Ingredients

Each patch contains:
78 mg or Nicotine which DELIVERS 14 mg of nicotine over 24 hrs.

Warnings

Nicabate should not be used by non-smokers, children, or occasional smokers. Additionally, the following contraindications apply:
Hypersensitivity to the system or any of the components.
Recent cerebrovascular accident.
Acute myocardial infarction, severe cardiac arrhythmias, unstable or worsening angina pectoris.
Women during pregnancy or lactation
Diseases of the skin which may complicate patch therapy.

Nicotine from any source can be toxic and addictive. Smoking causes lung cancer, heart disease, and emphysema, and may adversely affect the foetus and the pregnant woman.
For any smoker, with or without concomitant disease or pregnancy, the risk of nicotine replacement in a smoking cessation programme should be weighed against the hazard of continued smoking while using Nicabate systems, and the likelihood of achieving cessation of smoking without nicotine replacement.
Doses of nicotine that are tolerated by adult smokers during treatment can produce severe symptoms of poisoning in small children and may prove fatal.
Both before and after use, Nicabate contains a significant amount of nicotine. Subjects must be cautioned that the systems are not to be handled casually or left where they might be inadvertently misused or consumed by children or pets.
